COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GUARD, ROADWAY CROSSING (METRIC)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item
description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers a roadway crossing guard made of sheet steel to be used with a
102 millimeter (mm) (4 inch (in.)), lightweight, collapsible hoseline system.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Material. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), material shall be sheet steel in accordance
with ASTM A1008/A1008M or A1011/A1011M. Material not specified shall be selected by the
contractor and shall be subject to all provisions of this specification.
2.1.1 Material deterioration prevention and control. The guard shall be fabricated from
compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant or treated to provide protection against the
various forms of corrosion and deterioration that may be encountered in any of the applicable
operating and storage environments.
2.1.2 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each other
unless protected against galvanic corrosion.
2.2 Design and construction. Guards shall be as specified in figure 1.
