the inside of the cover, visible to the operator while loading. The diagram shall provide pictorial/verbal
instruction for loading the kit components into the container. Handles shall be provided in sufficient
number to permit lifting by personnel, based on a 40-pound lift capability per handle.
3.4 Environment.
3.4.1 Operating temperature. The packing kit shall meet requirements specified when
operated in temperatures ranging from 25 °F to 120 °F.
3.4.2 Storage temperature. The packing kit shall not be damaged or specified performance
degraded by extended storage in temperatures ranging from -45 °F to 165 °F.
3.5 Interface.
3.5.1 Hose assembly. The packing kit components shall interface with the components of the
MIL-PRF-52262 hose assembly, dimensionally and functionally, to accomplish repackaging of the
hoseline.
3.5.2 Government furnished property. The government shall make available MIL-PRF-52262
flaking boxes and hose assemblies (see 6.2) for use in first article testing.
3.6 Support and ownership requirements.
3.6.1 Materials. Materials shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to all
provisions of this specification. The container and component of the kit shall be fabricated from
compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant, or treated to provide protection against the
various forms of corrosion or deterioration.
3.6.1.1 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each
other unless protected against galvanic corrosion (see 6.5.2).
3.6.1.2. Recovered materials. The components, pieces, and parts incorporated into the kit
may be newly fabricated from recovered materials (see 6.5.3) to the extent practicable, provided
that the packing kit produced meets all other requirements of this specification. Used, rebuilt, or
re-manufactured components, pieces and parts shall not be incorporated into the kits.
3.6.2 Color and marking. Color and markings of the container and components shall be as
specified by the contract or order (see 6.2).
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as
follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.2).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3).
4.2 First article inspection. When specified in the contract or order, the first article inspection
shall be performed on a minimum of one kit (see 3.2 and 6.2). This inspection shall include the
examinations of table II and first article tests indicated in table III. Non-conformance to any specified
requirement, the failure of any test, or the presence of one or more defects shall be cause for rejection.
